Date & Time

World Time Calculator

Convert a clock time from one UTC offset to another, showing the target local time, whether it lands on the same day, and the hour difference between the two offsets.

What this calculator does

The World Time Calculator estimates your result instantly from the values you enter, using standard date & time formulas. Convert a clock time from one UTC offset to another, showing the target local time, whether it lands on the same day, and the hour difference between the two offsets. Calculations run in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to a server, and the output is an estimate rather than a certified or official figure.

About World Time Calculator

The World Time Calculator takes a clock time in one UTC offset and shifts it to another. Enter the base time, choose the base UTC offset it belongs to, and choose the target UTC offset you want to convert into.

The result is the equivalent time on the target clock, a day offset that tells you whether the conversion crosses midnight, and the raw hour difference between the two offsets. Offsets run from UTC-12 to UTC+14; the calculator uses whole-hour offsets and does not apply daylight saving adjustments.

Formula & Mathematical Calculation

Calculation Method

  1. baseMinutes: (+tp[0]) × 60 + (+tp[1])
  2. targetTotal: baseMinutes + (target - base) × 60
  3. dayOffset: Math.floor(targetTotal ÷ 1440)
  4. norm: ((targetTotal % 1440) + 1440) % 1440

Calculation Example

Take a base time of 22:00 at UTC+0 and convert it to UTC+9.

  • Target Time: 07:00
  • Day Offset: +1 day
  • Hour Difference: +9 h

Interpretation shown: “22:00 at UTC+0 is 07:00 at UTC+9, a difference of +9 hours (+1 day).” Adding nine hours pushes the time past midnight into the next day.

Key Benefits

  • Converts a clock time between any two whole-hour UTC offsets from -12 to +14
  • Flags when the converted time crosses into the previous or next day
  • Shows the plain hour difference between the base and target offsets
  • Normalizes the result to a clean 24-hour HH:MM time

How to Use this Calculator

  1. Enter the base time
Set the starting clock time using the Base Time field in 24-hour HH:MM form.
  2. Choose the base UTC offset
Select the UTC offset the base time belongs to from the Base UTC Offset dropdown.
  3. Choose the target UTC offset
Select the offset you want to convert into from the Target UTC Offset dropdown.
  4. Calculate
Press Calculate to see the target time, day offset, and hour difference.

Assumptions & Limitations

What the calculation assumes

  • Every value you enter is treated as an exact, known amount.
  • Any rate or interval you enter is assumed to hold for the whole period unless the form asks for it separately.
  • Results use standard published formulas and account only for the values entered above.
  • Rounding is applied for display; the underlying calculation uses your full precision.
  • Results are returned in the same units you enter, unless the tool states the output unit.

What it does not cover

  • World Time Calculator produces a calculated result for reference and learning, not a certified or official measurement.
  • Real-world outcomes differ when tolerances, rounding rules or local standards apply.
  • Definitions and standards vary by region and change over time; verify the convention that applies to your case.
  • Figures are only as accurate as the inputs you supply — check them before acting on the result.
  • For work where the result carries real consequences, confirm it against an authoritative source.

Frequently Asked Questions

It shows whether the converted time stays on the same day or rolls into the previous or next day. '+1 day' means the target time is on the following day, while a negative value means the day before.

No. It uses fixed whole-hour UTC offsets exactly as you select them and applies no daylight saving adjustments.

It is simply the target offset minus the base offset. Converting from UTC+0 to UTC+9 gives a difference of +9 hours.

Both dropdowns cover whole-hour offsets from UTC-12 through UTC+14, with UTC+0 as the default.
