About Real Estate Commission Calculator

The Real Estate Commission Calculator works out the agent commission on a property sale and the net amount left to the seller. From the sale price and the commission rate, it multiplies the two to find the commission in dollars, then subtracts that commission from the sale price to show the net to the seller.

Commission is usually the largest single transaction cost when selling a home, so seeing it as a dollar figure next to the net proceeds makes the trade-off between price and rate immediately clear. The calculator reflects exactly the price and rate you enter and does not add any other closing costs, taxes, or mortgage payoff.

Enter the sale price and the commission rate, press Calculate, and read the commission amount and the net to the seller.

Formula & Mathematical Calculation

Commission = Sale Price × ( Commission Rate % ÷ 100 )

Net to Seller = Sale Price − Commission

Calculation Example

On a $350,000 sale at a 6% commission rate, the commission is $350,000 × 0.06 = $21,000, and the net to the seller is $350,000 − $21,000 = $329,000.

Key Benefits

  • Turns the commission rate into the exact dollar commission on your sale price.
  • Shows the net to the seller after the commission is deducted from the price.
  • Makes the effect of negotiating the rate visible as a dollar change in proceeds.
  • Uses only the sale price and rate you enter, with no other closing costs assumed.

How to Use this Calculator

  1. Enter the sale price
Type the property's sale price in the Sale Price field, for example 350000.
  2. Enter the commission rate
Type the total commission rate as a percentage in the Commission Rate field, for example 6.
  3. Press Calculate
The tool multiplies the price by the rate for the dollar commission, then subtracts it from the price for the net to the seller.
  4. Compare rates
Change the commission rate to see how a different rate moves both the commission and the net proceeds.

Assumptions & Limitations

What the calculation assumes

  • Every value you enter is treated as an exact, known amount.
  • Rates and contributions are assumed to stay constant for the whole period unless the form asks for them separately.
  • Results use standard financial formulas and ignore fees, penalties and promotional terms that are not entered above.
  • Inflation, tax changes and market volatility are not modelled unless a field for them is provided.
  • Amounts are unit-agnostic: results are returned in the same currency you enter.

What it does not cover

  • Real Estate Commission Calculator produces estimates for education and planning, not a quote, offer or professional advice.
  • Real-world outcomes differ when fees, taxes, rounding rules or provider-specific terms apply.
  • Local regulations and tax rules vary by country and change over time; verify current rules for your jurisdiction.
  • Figures are only as accurate as the inputs you supply — check them before acting on the result.
  • For decisions with lasting financial impact, confirm the numbers with a qualified professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

The calculator multiplies the sale price by the commission rate divided by 100. On a $350,000 sale at 6%, the commission is $21,000.

It is the sale price minus the calculated commission. For a $350,000 sale with a $21,000 commission, the net to the seller is $329,000.

No. It accounts only for the agent commission from the price and rate you enter. Title fees, transfer taxes, and any mortgage payoff are not part of this calculation.

Enter the total combined commission rate that both agents share. The calculator returns the full commission; you can then divide that figure between the sides yourself.
