About Market Cap Calculator

The Market Cap Calculator works out a company's market capitalization — the total market value of its outstanding shares — by multiplying the current share price by the number of shares outstanding.

Market capitalization is the headline measure of a company's size, used to sort firms into large-, mid-, and small-cap groups and to compare one company against another regardless of share price. Because a high share price with few shares can be worth less than a low price with many shares, the product of the two is what matters. The calculator returns that product directly from the two figures you enter.

Enter the share price and the shares outstanding, press Calculate, and read the market capitalization.

Formula & Mathematical Calculation

Market Capitalization = Share Price × Shares Outstanding

Calculation Example

A company trading at $150 per share with 10,000,000 shares outstanding has a market capitalization of $150 × 10,000,000 = $1,500,000,000.

Key Benefits

  • Computes market capitalization directly from share price and share count.
  • Gives the standard measure of company size for peer comparison.
  • Shows why share price alone does not indicate how large a company is.
  • Uses only the two figures you enter, with nothing else assumed.

How to Use this Calculator

  1. Enter the share price
Type the current price per share in the Share Price field, for example 150.
  2. Enter the shares outstanding
Type the total number of shares outstanding in the Shares Outstanding field, for example 10000000.
  3. Press Calculate
The tool multiplies the share price by the shares outstanding to return the market capitalization.
  4. Compare companies
Repeat for other companies to compare their sizes on the same market-value basis.

Assumptions & Limitations

What the calculation assumes

  • Every value you enter is treated as an exact, known amount.
  • Rates and contributions are assumed to stay constant for the whole period unless the form asks for them separately.
  • Results use standard financial formulas and ignore fees, penalties and promotional terms that are not entered above.
  • Inflation, tax changes and market volatility are not modelled unless a field for them is provided.
  • Amounts are unit-agnostic: results are returned in the same currency you enter.

What it does not cover

  • Market Cap Calculator produces estimates for education and planning, not a quote, offer or professional advice.
  • Real-world outcomes differ when fees, taxes, rounding rules or provider-specific terms apply.
  • Local regulations and tax rules vary by country and change over time; verify current rules for your jurisdiction.
  • Figures are only as accurate as the inputs you supply — check them before acting on the result.
  • For decisions with lasting financial impact, confirm the numbers with a qualified professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

The calculator multiplies the current share price by the number of shares outstanding. At $150 per share and 10,000,000 shares, the market cap is $1,500,000,000.

Share price alone says nothing about company size because share counts differ. A $150 stock with 10 million shares is worth less than a $20 stock with 200 million shares, which is why the product is the size measure.

Enter the shares outstanding. The calculator applies whatever figure you provide; if you use a fully diluted share count, the result reflects the diluted market value instead.

Yes. Shares outstanding must be zero or more; if you enter a negative number the tool stops with 'Shares must be 0 or more.'
