About Pre-Market Profit Calculator

The Pre-Market Profit Calculator shows the unrealized profit or loss on a stock position from the move between your entry price and the current pre-market price. It multiplies the price change by the number of shares and, when an entry price is given, expresses the move as a percentage return.

Pre-market trading can gap a stock well away from the prior close, so seeing the dollar and percentage impact of that move on your position is useful before the regular session opens. The calculator reports the position's paper gain or loss directly from the three figures you enter.

Enter the entry price, the pre-market price, and the number of shares, press Calculate, and read the unrealized profit and the percentage return.

Formula & Mathematical Calculation

Unrealized Profit = ( Pre-Market Price − Entry Price ) × Shares

Return (%) = ( Pre-Market Price − Entry Price ) ÷ Entry Price × 100

Calculation Example

Holding 100 shares bought at $50 with a pre-market price of $55 gives an unrealized profit of ($55 − $50) × 100 = $500, a 10% return.

Key Benefits

  • Shows the dollar profit or loss on a position from the pre-market move.
  • Expresses the move as a percentage return against your entry price.
  • Handles losses the same way when the pre-market price is below entry.
  • Uses only the entry price, pre-market price, and share count you enter.

How to Use this Calculator

  1. Enter the entry price
Type the price you paid per share in the Entry Price field, for example 50.
  2. Enter the pre-market price
Type the current pre-market price per share in the Pre-Market Price field, for example 55.
  3. Enter the shares
Type the number of shares you hold in the Shares field, for example 100.
  4. Press Calculate
The tool multiplies the price change by the shares for the dollar profit and divides the change by the entry price for the percentage return.

Assumptions & Limitations

What the calculation assumes

  • Every value you enter is treated as an exact, known amount.
  • Rates and contributions are assumed to stay constant for the whole period unless the form asks for them separately.
  • Results use standard financial formulas and ignore fees, penalties and promotional terms that are not entered above.
  • Inflation, tax changes and market volatility are not modelled unless a field for them is provided.
  • Amounts are unit-agnostic: results are returned in the same currency you enter.

What it does not cover

  • Pre-Market Profit Calculator produces estimates for education and planning, not a quote, offer or professional advice.
  • Real-world outcomes differ when fees, taxes, rounding rules or provider-specific terms apply.
  • Local regulations and tax rules vary by country and change over time; verify current rules for your jurisdiction.
  • Figures are only as accurate as the inputs you supply — check them before acting on the result.
  • For decisions with lasting financial impact, confirm the numbers with a qualified professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

The calculator multiplies the difference between the pre-market price and your entry price by the number of shares. For a $5 move on 100 shares, the unrealized profit is $500.

It divides the price change by the entry price and multiplies by 100. A move from $50 to $55 is a 10% return. If the entry price is zero, the percentage is shown as a dash because it cannot be computed.

No. It is an unrealized, on-paper figure based on the pre-market price. The actual result depends on the price when you eventually trade during the regular session.

Yes. If the pre-market price is below your entry price, the price change is negative and the calculator returns a negative profit and a negative percentage return.
