Grade Point Average Calculator
Computes a credit-weighted grade point average from a list of grade points and a matching list of credit hours, and shows the resulting GPA and total credits.
What this calculator does
The Grade Point Average Calculator estimates your result instantly from the values you enter, using standard math & conversions formulas. Computes a credit-weighted grade point average from a list of grade points and a matching list of credit hours, and shows the resulting GPA and total credits. Calculations run in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to a server, and the output is an estimate rather than a certified or official figure.

About Grade Point Average Calculator
This calculator finds a credit-weighted grade point average: each course's grade point is multiplied by its credit hours, the products are summed, and the total is divided by the sum of the credit hours.
Enter your grade points in one field and the matching credit hours in the other, using the same order and the same number of entries in each list.
Formula & Mathematical Calculation
GPA = f(Grade Points (comma-separated), Credit Hours (comma-separated))
Calculated according to standard math formulas implemented in the calculator core.
Calculation Example
Enter Grade Points as 4,3.7,3.3,4 and Credit Hours as 3,4,3,2.
The tool multiplies each pair and adds them: 4×3 + 3.7×4 + 3.3×3 + 4×2 = 12 + 14.8 + 9.9 + 8 = 44.7. It sums the credits: 3 + 4 + 3 + 2 = 12. Dividing gives 44.7 ÷ 12 = 3.725, shown as the GPA, with Total Credits of 12.
Key Benefits
- Weights each grade by its credit hours instead of taking a plain average
- Accepts any number of courses through comma-separated lists
- Supports fractional grade points such as 3.7 or 3.3
- Reports the GPA to three decimals and the total credit hours alongside it
- Flags mismatched lists so every grade has a matching credit value
How to Use this Calculator
-
Enter grade points
In the Grade Points field, type each course's grade point separated by commas, for example 4,3.7,3.3,4. -
Enter credit hours
In the Credit Hours field, type the credit hours in the same order, for example 3,4,3,2, using the same number of entries. -

Assumptions & Limitations
What the calculation assumes
- Every value you enter is treated as an exact, known amount.
- Any rate or interval you enter is assumed to hold for the whole period unless the form asks for it separately.
- Results use standard published formulas and account only for the values entered above.
- Rounding is applied for display; the underlying calculation uses your full precision.
- Results are returned in the same units you enter, unless the tool states the output unit.
What it does not cover
- Grade Point Average Calculator produces a calculated result for reference and learning, not a certified or official measurement.
- Real-world outcomes differ when tolerances, rounding rules or local standards apply.
- Definitions and standards vary by region and change over time; verify the convention that applies to your case.
- Figures are only as accurate as the inputs you supply — check them before acting on the result.
- For work where the result carries real consequences, confirm it against an authoritative source.
