Compute a credit-weighted high school GPA from a list of grade points and matching course credits, and show the total credits.

What this calculator does

The High School GPA Calculator estimates your result instantly from the values you enter, using standard math & conversions formulas. Compute a credit-weighted high school GPA from a list of grade points and matching course credits, and show the total credits. Calculations run in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to a server, and the output is an estimate rather than a certified or official figure.

About High School GPA Calculator

This calculator finds a credit-weighted grade point average for high school courses. You enter a comma-separated list of grade points and a matching list of course credits, one credit value per course.

It multiplies each grade point by its credit, adds those products, and divides by the total credits, so courses worth more credit count more heavily. It also reports the total credits. The two lists must be the same length.

Formula & Mathematical Calculation

GPA = f(Grade Points (comma-separated), Course Credits (comma-separated))

Calculated according to standard math formulas implemented in the calculator core.

Calculation Example

Grade points 4, 3.7, 3.3, 4 with credits 1, 1, 1, 0.5:

  • Weighted points = 4×1 + 3.7×1 + 3.3×1 + 4×0.5 = 13
  • Total credits = 1 + 1 + 1 + 0.5 = 3.5
  • GPA = 13 ÷ 3.5 ≈ 3.714

The calculator reports a GPA of 3.714 and total credits of 3.5.

Key Benefits

  • Weights each grade by its course credit rather than a plain average
  • Reports the total credits alongside the GPA
  • Handles partial-credit courses such as 0.5-credit classes

How to Use this Calculator

  1. Enter grade points
Type each course's grade point into the 'Grade Points (comma-separated)' field, separated by commas, such as 4,3.7,3.3,4.
  2. Enter course credits
Type the matching credit for each course into the 'Course Credits (comma-separated)' field in the same order, such as 1,1,1,0.5.
  3. Calculate
Press Calculate to see the credit-weighted GPA and total credits.

Assumptions & Limitations

What the calculation assumes

  • Every value you enter is treated as an exact, known amount.
  • Any rate or interval you enter is assumed to hold for the whole period unless the form asks for it separately.
  • Results use standard published formulas and account only for the values entered above.
  • Rounding is applied for display; the underlying calculation uses your full precision.
  • Results are returned in the same units you enter, unless the tool states the output unit.

What it does not cover

  • High School GPA Calculator produces a calculated result for reference and learning, not a certified or official measurement.
  • Real-world outcomes differ when tolerances, rounding rules or local standards apply.
  • Definitions and standards vary by region and change over time; verify the convention that applies to your case.
  • Figures are only as accurate as the inputs you supply — check them before acting on the result.
  • For work where the result carries real consequences, confirm it against an authoritative source.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. There must be one credit value for each grade point, or the calculator returns an error.

Each grade point is multiplied by its credit, the products are summed, and the total is divided by the total credits.

Yes. Credits like 0.5 are supported, so half-credit courses count proportionally toward the total.
