About Working Capital Requirement Calculator
The Working Capital Requirement Calculator estimates how much cash your day-to-day operations tie up. It looks at the current assets a business must fund on its own, namely the value sitting in inventory and the money owed to it by customers, and then nets out the short-term credit suppliers extend through unpaid bills. The gap that remains is the working capital the business has to finance itself.
You provide three figures: the value of inventory on hand, accounts receivable owed by customers, and accounts payable owed to suppliers. The tool adds inventory and receivables together, subtracts payables, and reports the resulting requirement. Enter your inventory, receivables, and payables in the fields, press Calculate, and read the working capital requirement in the result.
Formula & Mathematical Calculation
Working Capital Requirement = Inventory + Accounts Receivable − Accounts Payable
Calculation Example
Imagine a business holding $120,000 in inventory, with $80,000 owed by customers in accounts receivable and $50,000 owed to suppliers in accounts payable. Add inventory and receivables: $120,000 + $80,000 = $200,000. Then subtract payables: $200,000 − $50,000 = $150,000.00. That $150,000 is the working capital the business must fund on its own.
Key Benefits

- Combines inventory, receivables, and payables into a single requirement figure.
- Shows the funding gap suppliers do not cover through the credit they extend you.
- Lets you test how paying down payables or collecting receivables faster changes the requirement.
- Gives a quick baseline for planning a line of credit or short-term financing.
