What This Means

About Unsecured Loan Calculator

The Unsecured Loan Calculator estimates fixed monthly payments and total interest for signature and unsecured personal loans based on your credit score tier and loan term.

Formula & Mathematical Calculation

Monthly Payment = P × [ r(1 + r)^n ] / [ (1 + r)^n - 1 ]

Calculation Example

$12,000 Unsecured Loan @ 11.5% (36 Months): Monthly Payment = $395.73/mo. Total Repaid = $14,246.33 → Total Interest = $2,246.33.

Assumptions & Limitations

What the calculation assumes

  • Every value you enter is treated as an exact, known amount.
  • Rates and contributions are assumed to stay constant for the whole period unless the form asks for them separately.
  • Results use standard financial formulas and ignore fees, penalties and promotional terms that are not entered above.
  • Inflation, tax changes and market volatility are not modelled unless a field for them is provided.
  • Amounts are unit-agnostic: results are returned in the same currency you enter.

What it does not cover

  • Unsecured Loan Calculator produces estimates for education and planning, not a quote, offer or professional advice.
  • Real-world outcomes differ when fees, taxes, rounding rules or provider-specific terms apply.
  • Local regulations and tax rules vary by country and change over time; verify current rules for your jurisdiction.
  • Figures are only as accurate as the inputs you supply — check them before acting on the result.
  • For decisions with lasting financial impact, confirm the numbers with a qualified professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

An unsecured loan is not backed by collateral such as a house, car, or other asset. Lenders approve it based on your creditworthiness and income, which usually means higher interest rates and stricter credit checks than a comparable secured loan that is pledged against an asset the lender can repossess if you miss payments.

The annual percentage rate is converted to a monthly rate and applied over the whole term when the calculator estimates your payment. A higher rate increases the interest portion of each month, so the monthly amount and the total repaid both rise, even when the loan amount and term stay the same.

The tool first estimates a level monthly payment for the term, multiplies that payment by the number of months to get the total repaid, and then subtracts the original loan amount from that total. The remaining difference is the total interest you would pay if every payment is made on time.

Because the calculator assumes equal payments over a fixed term, it does not by itself model extra payments. Paying more than the scheduled amount each month typically reduces the balance faster and can shorten the loan and lower total interest, but the exact effect depends on how the lender applies prepayments and any prepayment conditions.
