Siding Calculator

Estimate siding quantity from wall area. Enter the total wall area in square feet; the tool adds a 10% waste allowance and rounds the result up into whole siding squares of 100 square feet each.

What this calculator does

The Siding Calculator estimates your result instantly from the values you enter, using standard construction & home formulas. Estimate siding quantity from wall area. Enter the total wall area in square feet; the tool adds a 10% waste allowance and rounds the result up into whole siding squares of 100 square feet each. Calculations run in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to a server, and the output is an estimate rather than a certified or official figure.

About Siding Calculator

Enter the total wall area in square feet. The tool multiplies it by 1.1 to add a 10% waste allowance, giving the siding area you should buy.

It then divides that by 100 and rounds up to a whole number of siding squares, since siding is often sold and estimated by the square. It is free and runs in your browser.

Formula & Mathematical Calculation

Siding Area (ft²) = f(Wall Area (ft²))

Calculated according to standard construction formulas implemented in the calculator core.

Calculation Example

Enter a Wall Area of 800 ft².

Siding area = 800 × 1.1 = 880 ft².

Squares = ceil(880 ÷ 100) = ceil(8.8) = 9.

The tool shows Siding Area (ft²) as 880 and Squares (100 ft²) as 9.

Key Benefits

  • Adds a 10% waste allowance to the wall area for you
  • Rounds the square count up to whole units for ordering
  • Reports both the padded area and the square count from a single input
  • Free and runs in the browser with no sign-up

How to Use this Calculator

  1. Enter the wall area
Type the total wall area to be covered in square feet into the Wall Area (ft2) field.
  2. Calculate
Press the Calculate button to apply the 10% waste allowance and square conversion.
  3. Read the results
Check the Siding Area (ft2) box and the Squares (100 ft2) box.

Assumptions & Limitations

What the calculation assumes

  • Every value you enter is treated as an exact, known amount.
  • Any rate or interval you enter is assumed to hold for the whole period unless the form asks for it separately.
  • Results use standard published formulas and account only for the values entered above.
  • Rounding is applied for display; the underlying calculation uses your full precision.
  • Results are returned in the same units you enter, unless the tool states the output unit.

What it does not cover

  • Siding Calculator produces a calculated result for reference and learning, not a certified or official measurement.
  • Real-world outcomes differ when tolerances, rounding rules or local standards apply.
  • Definitions and standards vary by region and change over time; verify the convention that applies to your case.
  • Figures are only as accurate as the inputs you supply — check them before acting on the result.
  • For work where the result carries real consequences, confirm it against an authoritative source.

Frequently Asked Questions

Up. The waste-adjusted area is divided by 100 and rounded up with a ceiling function, so 8.8 becomes 9 squares.

10%. The wall area is multiplied by 1.1 before the square count is worked out.

One square is 100 square feet of siding; the tool divides the padded area by 100 to get the count.

The total area to be sided in square feet. It must be positive or the tool prompts for a positive wall area.
