Formula & Mathematical Calculation
Net Worth = Total Assets − Total Liabilities
Where: Total Assets = Cash + Investments + Real Estate + Vehicles + Personal Assets, Total Liabilities = Mortgages + Auto Loans + Student Loans + Credit Cards + Other Debts.
Calculation Example
With $20,000 cash, $150,000 investments, and a $400,000 home ($570,000 assets before other items) against a $300,000 mortgage and $40,000 of other debts, total assets of $600,000 minus total liabilities of $340,000 give a net worth of $260,000.
Key Benefits
- Totals every asset you enter and every liability, then subtracts one from the other.
- Reports total assets, total liabilities, and net worth from a single calculation.
- Handles a negative net worth when liabilities exceed assets.
- Breaks the result into an assets-versus-liabilities view so the balance is clear.

- Results use standard financial formulas and ignore fees, penalties and promotional terms that are not entered above.
- Inflation, tax changes and market volatility are not modelled unless a field for them is provided.
- Amounts are unit-agnostic: results are returned in the same currency you enter.
What it does not cover
- Net Worth Calculator produces estimates for education and planning, not a quote, offer or professional advice.
- Real-world outcomes differ when fees, taxes, rounding rules or provider-specific terms apply.
- Local regulations and tax rules vary by country and change over time; verify current rules for your jurisdiction.
- Figures are only as accurate as the inputs you supply — check them before acting on the result.
- For decisions with lasting financial impact, confirm the numbers with a qualified professional.
